The Light Revolution: An In-Depth Interview with Dr. Zulia Frost

Dr. Zulia Frost is a woman of two worlds. As a medical doctor and a doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture, she has spent decades bridging the gap between ancient wisdom and cutting-edge innovation. Throughout her career, she has treated tens of thousands of patients, increasingly moving away from traditional medication toward a "technology-first" approach to healing.
As the Clinical Director and co-founder of Recharge Health, she is now pioneering a global shift toward bioenergetic medicine. In this extended interview, Dr. Frost discusses the personal trauma that reshaped her career, the "energy deficit" at the heart of chronic illness, and the future of home-based recovery.
Q: You’ve built your career at the intersection of medicine, technology, and innovation. What moment or experience shaped your decision to take this path?
You know, very often you think you become a medical doctor because of a calling to help people. My mother was very inspirational to me, she was an excellent physician, and I always wanted to be like her. So, I went into medicine with my heart.
However, life put me in a situation where I became a patient myself. I experienced a very deadly car crash, and at that point, I was looking at all possibilities to get back to my "perfect health." I started to think more holistically: What other modalities exist? What else can I do to get back on track and be vibrant again? We often think of something bad as a negative, but in my case, it was a blessing. I lived through the hard times of injury and recovery, but on the upside, I discovered other opportunities to get patients back to health.
Q: Was there a moment in your medical career when you realized traditional healthcare wasn’t addressing everything patients needed?
To be honest, when I worked as a medical doctor, I was always pushed for time. There was always a deadline, lots of paperwork, and you never had enough time for your patient, never enough time to just sit and listen to what was actually happening.
I was never satisfied with just one approach. I always tried to look for the best solution for that specific patient. Even in my younger years, I was really into technology. There were so many new things coming out, and I always wanted to see if they could work for my patients. That passion for finding solutions, combined with a knowledge of what’s available in the therapeutic field, created the best combination for moving forward.

Q: What originally sparked your interest in red and near-infrared light therapy?
I always had this deep desire to study Photobiomodulation, what we call the "science of light." During my recovery, I used to intuitively get up at sunrise. I lived on the edge of town, and when the sun rose, I would run to that area. My whole body would vibrate with that sunrise; I felt the physical presence of healing energy. I remember I used to bow to the sun and ask to get better! The surrounding mountains and green space felt intuitively healing.
That was the first time I looked at the healing properties of light. When the time was right, I was introduced to Dr. Weber, who taught me about photobiomodulation using lasers. It completely blew me away. I was already using acupuncture, but learning that you could influence acupuncture points with a beam of light instead of a physical needle was thrilling.
Q: Was there a defining moment when you knew you wanted to build something like Recharge Health and the FlexBeam?
Absolutely. It was my dream. In my practice, I used various modalities, electrical neurostimulation and laser acupuncture. I created a method to help chronically ill patients by producing that missing energy aspect. When I provided that energetic support, people showed very fast recovery rates for almost any chronic condition.
Soon, I was very busy. I could see patients once a week, or maybe once every two weeks. I thought, "I really want my patients to have the opportunity to take that energy home and continue their healing process." I wanted them to only come to see me when they needed direction. I wanted to create a tool for the home. Because everyone understands that sunshine is pure energy, light was the perfect modality choice. I finally found the right people to join me in this dream to co-found Recharge Health and create this beautiful product.
Q: What specific problem were you determined to solve?
The problem of fatigue. People who are sick are really fatigued. Giving them energy is the first step toward recovery. They often have a "foggy mind" and can’t figure out what is wrong. When you are depleted, the whole bodily system collapses layer after layer.
Until you solve the number one problem, the energy deficit, you cannot move further. Even if you take supplements or medication, your body requires energy to process and break them down. If you don't have the energy to assimilate food or medicine, you're stuck. We need to build a foundation with energy.
Q: You speak strongly about personal responsibility. Why is that philosophy central to the FlexBeam?
It’s a good question. I found that people often try to push responsibility onto someone else. One of my patients, an antique dealer, said to me: "I fix furniture. People bring me broken furniture, I fix it. I am bringing you my broken health, and you fix it." I said, "No, that is not how it works."
You have to assume responsibility for your own health. Once you do, you can recover from almost anything. In physiology, every cell renews itself. Skin cells renew in 20-25 days; other organs take months or years. Even nerve cells recycle. Within seven years, you have a completely brand-new body. It depends on what you are putting in: what you eat, if you exercise, if you are breathing, or if you are constantly stressed. No matter how wonderful the doctor is, if you don't make these changes, things won’t shift. You need sleep, hydration, exercise, and positive thoughts.

Q: Where do you see the future of recovery and preventative health heading?
I see these tools in every outlet of healthcare because they are preventative. If you stress for too long, your hormones become dysregulated and you become ill. If we, as a human community, start addressing problems before they go too far, we can prevent so many diseases.
Diabetes, for example, is largely a lifestyle condition. If you exercise, eat less sugar, and use devices like FlexBeam as regular tools, you can preventatively shift toward recovery. I see a future where everyone uses light, sound, and electrical stimulation. It is an "unharvested earth." Everyone should have these tools at home as support for their healing journey.
Q: How does this philosophy translate into your own daily life?
If I didn't practice what I preach, it would be fake. In 2003, I realized I am in control of my life, not a victim of circumstances. I restructured my life to be vibrant and optimistic. I drink lots of water and I go for a jog every other day because movement is life.
I take very few supplements because I believe food is medicine. The body is accustomed to food and can process it better than pharmaceutically refined products. Most importantly, I choose not to get stressed. When there are delays or things I can't control, I choose to stay peaceful in my core. Everything usually fixes itself.
Q: If you could give three evidence-based habits for long-term women’s health, what would they be?
Women today are trying to do too much, be the perfect mother, wife, and performer at work. This is a lot to bear. We also live in an environment full of pollutants. Plastics in the environment create "xenoestrogens" that mimic your own hormones. This, combined with the pill, creates an "estrogen-dominant" perfect storm, leading to early menopause, PCOS, and endometriosis.
My three recommendations:
- Eliminate Pollutants: Be aware of the plastics and environmental toxins you are exposed to.
- Control Stress via the Vagus Nerve: We use a vagus support protocol with FlexBeam. Stimulating the power of light on the pelvic area also improves circulation for those with sedentary lifestyles.
- Repair Your Circadian Rhythm: With the invention of light bulbs, we stay up too late and our body clocks are "screwed up." Since every hormone is released according to this clock, a skewed rhythm causes hormonal overlap. Red light therapy modulates melatonin production and repairs that rhythm.
Q: As a female founder, what is your message to women who are hesitant to step forward?
Believe in yourself. It used to be a "man's world," and it can be tough to compete, but if you have a mission, stick to it. Do not accept compromises, because the minute you compromise, you lose integrity with your dream. Step by step, go toward your goal and never be intimidated by someone just because they wear a gray suit!
Q: If you could shift one mindset globally about health, what would it be?
Take charge of your own health. If you don't do it, nobody else will. We give you the tools, but you have to choose to use them wisely and get back to your health naturally.
